Tide That Forgot to Fall

I kept thinking about the moment water decides it's done obeying anything. This is a coastal shelf where the ocean peels upward in slow ribbons, each one lit from inside like bioluminescence mixed with something older. The cliffs beneath are dry and warm — the sea left them behind a long time ago.
