Mosaic Trim, Concourse Pillar Four

This pillar has been directing foot traffic since 1961 and nobody looks at it anymore. I spent forty minutes waiting for a gap in the morning rush so I could get close enough to read the grout lines — each tessera no bigger than a thumbnail, hand-set in a chevron that the original specification called 'civic gold.' The Ektachrome pulls the fluorescent overhead into something almost warm, almost intentional.
